Why do we study the law?

Oftentimes, we get asked these questions by our friends, our family. Even our professors would begin our classes with “Bakit ka ba nag-aaral ng batas? Gusto mo lang ba yumaman?” The reasons may vary from fulfilling promises, following legacies, or finding purpose.

With all of these goals in mind, we took for granted the experiences that came along the way. From failed recitations, mental breakdowns, and broken bonds, we want to forget these challenges. However, these events helped shape who we are as a person, alongside the positives in our lives. In failed recitations, there is camaraderie. In mental breakdowns, there is clarity. In broken bonds, there are lessons.

From the moment we opened our Zoom for class the first time, or when we entered the classrooms, we embarked on a journey which would mold our character as lawyers.

This issue, The Odyssey, reminds us that as important as our purpose is, we must never take our journey for granted. Look back into your purpose, your “why” as you look back from your journey leading up to this point. A hero’s welcome will always be present at the end, but never forget how you arrived at this point.
