[Commencement Exercises 2023] Opening Remarks of Vice Dean Carlo Busmente during the 13th Commencement Exercises of San Beda College Alabang School of Law

The commencement exercise is a momentous event in a law student’s legal education journey. It is the culmination of years’ worth of hard-won victories, difficult sacrifices and meaningful lessons. This ceremony marks the close of one chapter and a prelude to the next—the bar examinations. To continue this tradition of excellence, please join me in welcoming the School of Law’s Graduating Batch of 2023 composed of 153 women and 80 men, for a total of 233 future Bedan lawyers, led by class valedictorian, Ms. Marielle L. Ricohermoso, the class salutatorian, Mr. Miguel Carlos P. Pangilinan, and the loyalty awardee, Mr. William Karol Benedict W. Bilar.

To our loving parents, honorable guests, dear friends and my fellow Bedans, it is with great honor and pleasure that I welcome you all to the 13th Commencement Exercises of the San Beda Alabang School of Law. While the highlight of the event are our graduating students, I believe that everyone will agree with me when I say that this day would not have been possible without the tremendous love and support by the people that have been with our graduates both in body and spirit since the beginning. With that, let’s give a warm round of applause for your parents, relatives, and friends who have been your pillar of support throughout this entire journey.

The faculty of the School of Law, composed of seasoned lawyers experts in their individual fields are the backbone of this institution. They are the ones responsible for honing the minds and strengthening the hearts of our graduates. But most importantly, it is through them that future lawyers learned to pray, not just to pray, but to pray very very hard, and to believe in a higher power, becoming true testaments to the true values of ora et labora or prayer and work. With that, ladies and gentlemen, let us all welcome the esteemed administrators of the San Beda College Alabang, and the well-loved and respected faculty members of the School of Law.
