MANILA, PH—“Believe in the me that believes in you.” —Kamina, from Gurren Lagann.
Trusting oneself and having faith in God: These are the keys that pave the way for Atty. Luigi Nico Mosqueda Reyes to emerge as top seven (7) in the 2022 Bar examinations.
Out of the 3,992 successful bar examinees, Atty. Reyes placed 7th with an average of 87.1917%, as announced by the Supreme Court on Friday, April 14.
“I did not expect to be one of the bar topnotchers. Although, after finishing the bar exams and the moment I left the premises of UP BGC, I knew in my heart that I [was] going to become a lawyer,” said Atty. Reyes in an exclusive interview with The Red Chronicles.
During his law school days, Atty. Reyes was a member of SBCA- Environmental Law Society. With regard to his study habits, he supplemented his readings with video lectures. Taking down notes also helped him to better understand the legal provisions.
He graduated in 2021 but deferred taking the bar examinations because he felt that he was not yet ready. Hence, he decided to take the next bar examinations.
During his review for the 2022 Bar exams, Atty. Reyes shared that there was this one time when he met his grandma, “My grandma said that God will give me something- a topnotch. Indeed, there is a Divine Providence, He has a plan for me after all. God works in mysterious ways.”
According to Atty. Reyes, a secret recipe for passing the bar examinations is to choose a motivational song that will get you through the hard days of the bar review. Moreover, it is also important to study the doctrinal cases of the bar chairperson and to familiarize ourselves with the types of questions in the bar exams.
“Have faith in yourself. Trust in your efforts and foundation. Don’t be discouraged by the outside forces that are beyond your control. If you don’t believe in yourself, just believe in the people who [believe] in you. And lastly, put your faith in God, He will not let you down”, says Atty. Reyes to all 2023 barristers.
A total of 215 students of San Beda College Alabang hurdled the 2022 Bar exams with a total of 64% passing rate, surpassing the national passing rate. Furthermore, San Beda University emerged as the top 1 law school, obtaining a 97.58% passing rate for first-time takers.
