The SBCA-SOL community held its annual intramural games Lex Celebrationis last March 7 to 14, 2021. The event was conducted online given the prevailing restrictions of the pandemic.
”It was definitely a challenge. Initially, we were thinking of having it cancelled but I don’t think it’s right for us to finish our school year without celebrating our annual sportsfest. [We] decided to focus on sports that can be done virtually like e-sports and chess. We’ve also added additional activities like academic contests on law and general knowledge through platforms like Zoom and Kahoot”, SLG President Juan Carlo “JC” Santos stated.
The yearly Lex Celebrationis has become an avenue for our law students to showcase their talents in sports. Furthermore, it has also helped foster camaraderie among the School of Law’s roster of diverse individuals. This year, organizers of the event aimed to connect the students through the available online platforms.
Jonathan Libao, the student volunteer-in-charge of the virtual games, observed that the event went better than expected. ” The fact that we planned for it early made it easier to conduct the event. The main problem that we were anticipating was how to organize the games during the day of the event because our only source of communication was [sic] Discord and Facebook Messenger. But during the event, good thing we only encountered minor problems which were easily managed,” he said.
Online games included in the week-long celebration are Valorant; Mobile legends; COD Mobile; Jeopardy (Law and Non Law Related; Kahoot (Law and Non-Law Related); Online chess and Legends of Runterra.
Speaking about his experience, Myles Justin Puno of the champion Team SAKALAM said, “What I appreciate the most about these activities is the opportunity to bond with my fellow law students. During our leisure time, we also play online games to unwind after long days of studying and grueling recitations. That’s why we joined this year’s games. Not only did Lex Celebrationis serve as a respite for us students, it also gave us an opportunity to compete. And through competing, we enkindle the sportsmanship within us—and that is just as important as winning.”
The games are categorized into individual and team. Below is the partial list of victorious participants of each event.
