Last January 17, San Beda College Alabang School of Law (SBCA-SOL) hosted a celebration for the return of its former students through the 20th Grand Alumni Homecoming at the St. Maur Auditorium.
The Alumni Relations Commission (ARC), in cooperation with the School of Law Government (SLG), Volunteer Corps (VC), and the whole Council of Organizations (COO), prepared awards for alumni who showed particular skill in judicial excellence, public service, teaching, and promotion of human rights and social justice, among others.
When asked about his thoughts on the event, Atty. John Jacome, faculty adviser of the ARC, described his surprise at the high number of attendees, initially believing that not everyone could participate due to busy schedules.
“Hopefully, this will become an annual homecoming tradition so that we’ll be able to familiarize ourselves with one another, because as of now, we are composed of 2,070 lawyers from across the different batches, and we are strangers to one another because we don’t meet like this,” he further added.
Meanwhile, Atty. Kate Capulong, Head of the Alumni Relations Commission Commission Working Committee, expressed her thoughts on the event preparations as “challenging to say the least, but we overcame it because of the dedication and selfless service by everyone.”
A recent bar passer, Atty. Erica Retuya also opened up about her emotions during the event, “It felt liberating, as though a weight had been lifted. I could now look back at the memories of failure and the moments of doubt with fondness as I grow to appreciate how far I have come.”
